The hospital is looking to improve their elderly care ward, and they would love to create a dementia friendly room that helps bridge the gap between a hospital ward and a home-like living area.
This living area will be one where patients can spend time reading, playing board games and spending time with their family and friends, but still within the comfort and surroundings of the wider hospital environment. In this living area they will be assisted by occupational therapists and ward staff to do every day task's such as make themselves a pot of tea. Furthermore, it will act as a place of assessment support for those leaving hospital, ensuring the individual can truly be self-sufficient once they have gone home. Funds will also contribute to dementia friendly afternoon tea parties for the patients, and to purchase dementia friendly activities which are hugely beneficial to their patients.
Three members of the Redstone Training Team spent the day fundraising by visiting local children's nurseries and schools dressed as the children’s favourite characters, the Mischievous Elf, Chase from Paw patrol and Peter Rabbit. The Nurseries and Schools also supported this fund-raising effort in the week prior to the arrival of the Elf, Chase & Peter Rabbit, doing things like a sponsored Santa run, Raffles, and donations. From here, they went over to the children’s wards and children’s A&E department at James cook hospital, to put a smile on their faces and hand out Christmas selection boxes.
The day was the second time the Redstone Training Team has supported the local Hospitals Chairty. In 2022, Redstone Training raised funds for the same charity that went towards the build of the maternity bereavement room, which has already been used by over 50 bereaved families, we are looking forward to seeing the process of the Living area and will be visiting the hospital again soon. Check out the link below for further updates on the Charity work.
A massive thank you to all the local nurseries & schools for all their hard work fundraising & we look forward to receiving the fundraising grand total once all monies are collected and counted in January 2024.
Keep an eye out on our website as we will be updating with a final fundraising about and updates on the area at the Hospital.
